The Dollar Store To Dollar Plus Store Conversion Challenge
Whether you are just opening a dollar store for the first time or you already own a dollar store one of the biggest challenges is determining the right format. Your store format helps to determine projected sales, projected costs, projected profits, dollar store suppliers for the merchandise your business depends on, and much more. If you are just opening a dollar store all that’s required is to carefully examine the pros and cons associated with different formats, and then make the right decision for your soon to open business. However if your store is open and operating and the right format has changed over time, there is much more work to be done.
In most cases those changing formats are moving from $1 price point to dollar plus store format. While making this change may seem straightforward, there are genuine challenges to be overcome before the transition can be called a success. In this article I provide an overview of 3 of the most critical challenges you will face.
1. Expect to lose many of your current shoppers
Dollar store shoppers are bargain hunters. They know the merchandise that is available at the $1 price point, and they know where to find that merchandise. Your challenge is to ease the pain of seeing merchandise you have offered at the $1 price point jumping over $1. It is to provide a smooth transition to your new dollar plus store format.
2. You must treat the changeover as a new business
Just as you held a grand opening when first opening a dollar store, this is the right time to hold a grand re-opening event. You must make this an exciting time for your existing shoppers as well as new shoppers who are coming to your store for the first time. This is the right time to make it crystal clear to all shoppers how they will benefit from your move to a dollar plus store. The benefits of this move must be so great that shoppers don’t hesitate – they just start shopping with you.
3. Prepare to maintain momentum by aggressively marketing your business
Your marketing program needs to be more aggressive than before. You must keep your store name and the benefits of shopping with you in front of everyone. Consider newspaper, and other media as one part of your strategy. But don’t stop there. Make your store the fun place to shop by conducting events that correspond to the seasons of the year or major holidays.
In many ways the transition from $1 price point to dollar plus is like starting a new business. You must do everything possible to retain existing shoppers through the transition. However you cannot afford to stop there. You must also take the right actions to build your customer base even bigger.

The Beaches Of Cancun – Bigger And Better Than Ever!
Extending from the Mexican mainland in the shape of a ’7′, the many beaches of Cancun’s Hotel Zone have recently received a significant facelift. Almost immediately after much of the sand lining the Caribbean Sea was carried away in a storm, a crew of over 200 people began restoring the beaches. However, the rebuilding didn’t stop when the beaches were restored to their original size. Much like the premier resorts of Cancun that utilized this rebuilding period to make their accommodations even more luxurious and inviting, the beaches were rebuilt with an average width of 140 feet – making most beaches 50% bigger than their original size. Today, with all of the rebuilding completed, the beaches of Cancun offer visitors even more activities and space to relax.
The beaches along the stretch of land extending into the Caribbean are typically referred to as the North Side beaches. As these beaches are somewhat sheltered from the Caribbean current by Isla Mujeres, the wind and wave conditions at these beaches are typically very mild. While the beaches of the East Side might be for some water sports, many of the North Side beaches are perfect for swimming and family activities.
Here is overview of the North Side Beaches, From West to east, approaching the Caribbean Sea and the main stretch of Cancun’s Hotel Zone:
Playa Las Perlas – Located at the beginning of the Hotel Zone where the land begins stretching into the Caribbean, this beach is a popular choice for swimming and other water sports. When you’ve finished having fun in the water, Playa Las Perlas also has plenty of charming restaurants and bars.
Playa Linda – This North Side beach is located near many popular tourist destinations and features calm, crystal-clear water that is perfect for all types of family-friendly water sports. As a result, Playa Linda is the best place to find submarine and scuba diving tours.
Playa Langosta and Playa Tortugas – These neighboring beaches are known for their pristine sand and relaxed atmosphere. With slightly larger waves than Playa Las Perlas, these two beaches also offer great opportunities for families to try active water sports like waterskiing, jet skiing and boating.
Playa Caracol – This beautiful beach has long been one of the most popular stretches of sand in Cancun. With shallow water leading out into a smooth, sandy bottom, Playa Caracol and its share of the Caribbean Sea is one of the best destinations for families. After the kids have enjoyed splashing in the crystal-clear water, parents can enjoy all the nearby restaurants and shops.
As the beaches of Cancun’s East Side extend directly into the Caribbean Sea, visitors will experience slightly higher waves and breezier conditions than on the North Side of the peninsula. However, nearly all of Cancun’s East Side beaches feature a family-friendly atmosphere and offer exciting activities for visitors of all ages.
Furthermore, as most of Cancun’s premier resorts rest of the East Side of the peninsula, you won’t have any trouble finding world-class shopping and dining within walking distance of the beach.
The beaches described here are in order from north to south, with the best resorts and activities residing at the southernmost end of the peninsula:
Gaviota Azul, Chac Mool and Playa Marlin – These three special stretches of sand are the northernmost beaches on the East Side of the Hotel Zone. While these beaches might not be as glamorous as those further south near the exclusive resorts, all three offer plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Also, as the wave action is the highest offshore from these beaches, windsurfing and parasailing have become popular sports here.
Playa Ballenas – This beach, centrally located on the East Side of the Hotel Zone, is known for its family-friendly activities. Every member of the family can enjoy activities like swimming, tubing, boating and waterskiing. Furthermore, as Playa Ballenas rests in the heart of Cancun’s most exciting area, there is also plenty to explore on land.
San Miguelito – Known as the beach that adds a little history to the exciting Cancun experience, San Miguelito allows visitors to explore ancient Mayan ruins while playing in the sand. Beyond the important historical remains located on the beach, San Miguelito is also a great place to swim or simply relax beneath the shade of a palapa.
Playa Delfines and Playa Nizuc – Located at the southern end of the Hotel Zone’s East Side, these beaches offer some of the best scenery in Cancun. As Playa Delfines and Playa Nizuc are both nestled against some of the best resorts in Cancun, there are also plenty of great restaurants and other activities to enjoy.
Following the extensive rebuilding period, nearly everything in Cancun is better than ever and the city hardly missed a beat. The improved beaches of Cancun allow you and your family to play in the near-endless sand, frolic in the warm water or simply relax in the sun.
Throw in the family-oriented beach culture and the countless activities of the Hotel Zone and you’ll see why Cancun is one of the best family destinations in the Caribbean.

How to search a keyword from HTML file using Perl, or any other programming language?
Writing a program to find out whether the HTML file contain the word ‘keyword’ using Perl. Also please advise if other language is easier
Perl is pretty easy– just as easy or easier than any other program out there to use, especially considering that many other languages use Perl’s regular expression scheme, which is exactly what you want to be using. Here’s pretty much what you want:
if($html =~ /bkeywordb/s) {
#yes! the keyword is there
} else {
#no! keyword is not there
}
That assumes that the whole HTML content is contained within the $html variable, of course– and it also assumes a few other things, like that you don’t want to match things like “blah_keywordfoo”. But those are easy to change– more detail could let us give you a more accurate answer, too.
[edit]Stripping out the html tags like that? Try this instead to strip out html tags:
s/?w+(s+w+|s+w+="[^"]*"|s+w+=[^ rnt>]+)*/?>//gs
Of course, Y!A won’t let me post that code in full, so here it is broken down on several lines (annoying):
s/?w+(s+w+|s+
w+="[^"]*"|s+w+=[
^ rnt>]+)*/?>//gs
That ought to take care of all your HTML tags, and nothing else, with the arguable exception of HTML tags in JavaScript text strings.

Tropical islands are steeped in culture and the natives are too eager to share their culture with the tourists. One of the most interesting island cultures in the world is the Polynesian culture. This culture spans the pacific islands from Tahiti to Hawaii and everything in between. Each island has its own unique version of that culture but all of the islands share common beliefs and practices.
Tourists can enjoy varied activities, foods and delicacies. It is indeed interesting to watch each village demonstrate crafts and skills such as creating clothing from bark, stories through dance, baskets with leaves, and fire by rubbing sticks. During feature presentations you’ll hear fascinating descriptions of culinary types, transoceanic travel, and the preservation of traditions and history without a written language. Kids will love getting ink tattoos, spear throwing, ukulele lessons and fishing, and everyone loves watching fire walkers and native dances. Here are some of the better things to do:
Local Food- Hawaiian cuisine has mouth watering dishes that are cooked in open air with coal. Pork cooked in the underground imu oven, to a generous salad bar, chicken long rice, fresh fish, sweet potatoes, native fresh fruits, taro rolls, and traditional desserts. The food is really delicious and very healthy for you too.
Night Dance Show – The Polynesian performers share their history, art and culture with you in this famous song and dance show “Horizons,” the largest Polynesian revue of song and dance in the world. This features over 100 native performers from all corners of the Pacific. Dressed in native clothes, they share their spirit with the tourists. Also you are treated to rare cultural shows that are part of tropical island traditions. Moreover, you can watch the fire dancers doing their traditional fire stick shows.
At Oahu’s Polynesian Cultural Center you can spend the evening immersed in the cultural traditions and lifestyles of the seven individual South Pacific cultures and experience the largest Polynesian song and dance review in the world!
Hawaii’s Polynesian Cultural Center, located an hour’s scenic drive from Waikiki, is one of the top Oahu attractions. The seven native villages give you the rare chance to participate in the daily adventures of Hawaiian and other South Pacific cultures. If you don’t watch the world’s largest Polynesian night show, your trip to Hawaii is incomplete. Polynesian Cultural Center is a must see in Hawaii.
The islands in the south pacific offer people a chance to find a unique and interesting culture that is full of life. Polynesian culture treasures happiness, dancing, and good food. Take the time out to explore the Polynesian culture that is unique to the island you are visiting. It will give you more appreciation for the people who live there and the place itself.

Christian Louboutin – Creative Genius of the 21st Century
Possibly the most famous shoe designer in our current age is Christian Louboutin. His ethos is to “make shoes that are like jewels” and each unique design demonstrates unparalleled quality and an innate sultriness.
Christian Louboutin was born in Paris and at 16 years old became an apprentice at Charles Jourdan’s shoe factory. His main inspiration for becoming a shoe designer were the showgirls of the Paris nightclubs of the late 70’s early 80’s – “[The showgirls] influence me a lot. If you like high heels, it’s really the ultimate high heel – it’s all about the legs, how they carry themselves, the embellishment of the body. They are the ultimate icons.”
The trademark of every Louboutin shoe made is the red sole. Apparently this was inspired after he saw an assistant painting her nails red and thus the idea was born. Woman around the nation have been known to colour the soles of their killer black heels red in a lavish attempt to imitate a pair of these wondrous shoes!
Hundreds of famous celebrities the world over are huge fans. Oprah Winfrey has described the shoes simply as “pieces of art”. Unlike most Mum’s Victoria Beckham was last year seen watching her children playing football in a park in a pair of Christian Louboutin Heels.
This year’s Spring/Summer collection proves to be one of his best seasons yet with bright and funky wedge espradrilles to extremely high heels with delicate ribbons and embroidery detail. Mini heeled mules in colours ranging from beige to tan and suede turquoise heels and boots. Pure Heaven!
Christian Louboutin went so far as to condess that he designs his shoes to slow women down which gives them a sexier walk.
According to the editor of Handbag.com, Belinda White, wearing Louboutin heels can meana bettwe sex life – and more of it!
London based fans can head to his boutique store in Motcombe Street, Knightsbridge (“In such a pretty street, I want to have my prettiest shoes”) or head to Harvey Nicholls.
It is a fact that a large proportion of the nation don’t and possibly will never own a pair of these shoes but it’s almost as if having a pair would take away from the sheer, unadulterated joy of lusting after them.

Comfort Suites Paradise Island Bahamas: a Good Economy Hotel
We took a family trip here during our small kids’ school vacation for the access to Atlantis Resort Paradise Island. The hotel was what you would expect for a Comfort Inn – no more, no less – but was incredibly convenient to Atlantis, clean and comfortable. Each room has a pull out sofa which housekeeping opened every night while we were out and was perfect for our small kids. The hotel is filled with nice families who also want to spend their days at Atlantis.
Typical Bahamian service (slow to non-existent): coffee pot broken upon checking, new one delivered to room, 30 hours later. Smoke alarm went off when using hair dryer, staff removed smoke alarm and did not replace it. Ceilings in bathroom are mouldy and fan above bed completely filthy. Only beach access through Atlantis, new hotel being built beach this one and the beach. Best thing about this hotel is free use of Atlantis facilities.
This hotel served as a tremendous base for Atlantis vacation. The walk is very short to Atlantis. If you need more than one room, this is the only way to go. The Continental breakfast was more than enough to hold my family of six to well past lunch time. It included bagels, toast, cereal and fruit (usually watermelon) and was more than adequate. We found the staff helpful and friendly although they clearly work on ‘Bahamas time’. The hotel offers free scuba lessons in their pool, has a restaurant which does the trick for lunch (if you want to take a break from Atlantis), and always has taxis waiting if you want to go to Nassau.
It is literally across the street from the entrance to Atlantis and the Atlantis Marina Village which has cute shops and restaurants and is a nice place to walk around at night. We thought it enabled us to experience Atlantis for a lot less than we would if we actually stayed there. In terms of Atlantis, it’s a fun place to go once but is incredibly crowded and Disney-esque. If it’s a busy time at Atlantis, be sure to get towels from one of the Atlantis towel huts before you go back to the Comfort Suites at the end of the day and then come back first thing in the morning (by 7:30) to reserve a beach chair. Bring a personal item (T shirt, toy, flip flop) to mark your chair. It’s extremely annoying but everyone does it and it will ensure that your day will be more pleasant.
Most restaurants were extremely expensive. I recommend getting a food guide and checking prices of the restaurants before going. Most restaurants have the menus on the outside so you can see the prices before going in. Watch your receipts. On Paradise Island a 15% gratuity is already included on most purchases including ice cream and pizza.

When you buy a mobile home park, and if you currently own a mobile home park, it’s a pretty safe bet that you need to change the name. Because most mobile home parks have terrible names that, sadly, could be used as a marketing tool if only they were different. Just like Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue”, many mobile home parks have names which are extremely inappropriate and downright embarrassing for their residents to live under. And a wonderful marketing opportunity is missed every day that they are not changed.
The Problem
Most mobile home parks were built in the 1970s or earlier, at a time when mobile home park residents dreamed of having their own private jukebox and pink flamingos in the yard. They were the very essence of tacky. And the park names matched the customer. Some were clever take-offs on the mobile home concept, like “Roll-A-Home”. Many were rustic sounding like “Wagon Wheel”. But rarely were they created with any marketing strategy involved. Some are so bad that you have to wonder if the owner was trying to make fun of his tenants or the whole concept of trailer living. Some parks don’t even have a name, just a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood with a phone number or “Mobile Park” crudely painted on it. Just like the grave of the unknown soldier, they are nameless plots of dirt where tenants live and die and don’t even know how to identify themselves.
The Early Creators
Many of moms and pops that still own parks in America don’t know diddle about naming a property. They might be good with a carbine in WWII, or great with laying their own sewer line (until it flows backwards the first time around), or building parking pads with asphalt out of the back of their pick-up truck. But when it came to marketing, they were at the bottom of the class. Just look at the marketing materials from these folks even today. A professional quality flyer is a Xeroxed sheet written by hand with a marks-a-lot (both capitals and lower case letters interchanged). These folks ruled over cheap pieces of farmland with new infrastructure and some trailers, and were not serious real estate investors. They never dreamed their parks would be worth anything some day. The bottom line is that while they may have attractive mobile home parks, they have no idea how to name a property properly. Is it appropriate to have a lousy name on an expensive park?
The Cure
Naming a mobile home park is very easy. Virtually any name you choose will be better than the current one – you are probably 1,000% more marketing savvy than the person you bought the park from. You certainly have more at stake than they did. But there is a strategy to derive the ultimate name if you put a little work into it. Here’s the process:
· What is the number one sales point for someone moving to or living in the park?
· Reduce this sales point to one or two essential words.
· Add the name “Estates” at the start or end of these words.
For example, if your park has huge pine trees on it that everybody loves, then the appropriate name would be “Pine Tree Estates”. Or if it’s the frontage on Lake Forest, then it should be “The Estates of Lake Forest”, or “Lake Forest Estates”. It’s that simple.
Why a classy name? Because people in mobile home parks don’t want to be reminded of the fact with a lousy name that they have to use among the rest of the world who does not live in a trailer park. What kid at school wants to tell his friends, “I live in Roll-A-Home”? Nobody. Everybody wants to feel important and equal. Give them that opportunity!
Enacting the New Name
Once you have settled on a name, it’s equally easy to put it into practice. First, notify the city of what you are doing, and make sure it is legal to change before you begin. I have never seen a city that had a problem with changing the name. Then, it’s time for a new sign for the park. This time around, get a decent quality one from a professional company, at a cost of about $2,000. Then send a letter to all the tenants about the name change. And you’ll have to change the marketing materials at all of the dealers. The final change is your yellow page ad – so keep watching for that renewal notice.
That’s all there it to it. That’s not too hard now, is it?
The Benefits
A new, classy name will have multiple benefits to your property:
The name alone delivers your sales message to potential customers (remember to put the key sales point in the name).
The residents will have more pride of ownership when they can take pride in the name of where they live.
A new name erases the park’s past ills
A new name is a turn-on to lenders who look at financing it (remember that the name will be throughout your loan application documents).
A classy name will help you get a higher sales price when you go to sell the park someday.
Conclusion
The benefits of changing the name of your mobile home park are priceless. The cost is nominal. There is no excuse not to do it. So start immediately. You will be very happy you did. And so will your tenants!
